Government Official States Ministry of Defence Looking at Potential Threat from Chinese Cars, with Personnel Told to Refrain from Secret Talk in Cars.

An defense minister has revealed that the Ministry of Defence is actively investigating the potential security risks associated with Chinese vehicles, and staff have been told to avoid discussing secret matters in all vehicles.

Security Advice for MoD Staff

During a recent appearance on a radio station, Luke Pollard addressed reports that Ministry of Defence staff have been instructed not to talk about secret material while riding in China-made vehicles.

The minister stated that the MoD is “investigating” Chinese vehicles within its vehicle pools, but stressed that safety is a issue in all modern cars.

Our department has a collection of tens of thousands of cars in the Ministry of Defence and Chinese ones represent a very small number.
But regardless of if you’re traveling in a Chinese car or a non-Chinese car, what we’ve asked our staff is not to plug MoD technology into their vehicle, not to have discussions at a secret classification in any vehicle, because of the growing threats of surveillance that are present in all vehicle, to only have those secret conversations in protected areas. This is a prudent and reasonable thing for everyone worried about safety.

After it was suggested that it would be prudent for the MoD to cease using all Chinese vehicles, Pollard responded: That is exactly what we are looking into at the moment.”

Broader Security Background

This revelation comes as reports from Norway and Denmark have warned the United Kingdom to the presence of multi-purpose kill switches in Chinese buses, which could enable the Chinese government to disable buses and cause chaos to transport systems.

Furthermore, a Russian spy ship has been directing laser beams at Royal Air Force aircrew, labeled a “highly dangerous” act by defence officials.

The broader security environment highlights the significance of robust protocols and caution in all aspects of government operations, including transport use to discussions practices.
